First Sacramental Preparation

OLS First Sacrament Program

At our parish, children typically celebrate their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during 2nd grade, with both sacraments usually taking place in the spring.

Preparation for these important sacraments is rooted in ongoing faith formation and family involvement. A prerequisite for enrollment in the First Sacrament Program is participation in at least one full year of catechesis prior to entering sacramental preparation. Our catechetical program begins at age 4 with our Pre-K Faith Formation class.

First Sacrament preparation classes are held during the regular Sunday morning Faith Formation schedule. In addition to weekly classes, families participate in several required Family Catechesis gatherings throughout the year. These gatherings are designed to help parents and children grow together in understanding and living the Catholic faith. Parents also take part in two special four-week formation components held during Advent and Lent. These sessions are intended to support parents as the primary teachers of the faith and provide opportunities to learn alongside their children as they prepare to receive the sacraments.

If your son or daughter is above the age of 9, we have a program called "Awaken" that is held every other year for students to prepare to receive their First Sacraments. We will be holding this program the year of 2026/27 beginning in September on Sunday mornings.
